Floral Meadow

Floral Meadow is a surface design collection created from my original sketches of herbal wildflowers. Beginning with hand-drawn illustrations, I used Procreate to trace and refine the motifs before bringing them into Adobe Illustrator to vectorize and color. The result was a series of repeatable patterns designed to work as a coordinated collection or as standalone prints, versatile enough for bedding, garments, and even home applications like wallpaper.

Goals & Inspiration

  • Build a cohesive fabric collection with multiple patterns that can be mixed and matched.

  • Draw inspiration from vintage ditsy florals and the aesthetics of modern cottagecore fashion.

  • Capture the feeling of earthy, ethereal, and subdued in both color palette and motif.

  • Create designs that feel timeless, delicate, and suited to both apparel and interiors.

Process

The collection began with hand-drawn sketches of herbal florals, including chamomile and calendula. These drawings were digitized step by step: first traced and cleaned in Procreate, then vectorized and colored in Adobe Illustrator to create flexible design files. From there, I developed a range of repeatable pattern tiles, exploring scale and composition to create variation—from all-over ditsy florals to more structured repeats.

As part of my exploration, I also carved several of these designs into rubber stamps. Using fabric inks, I hand-printed them onto cloth, creating one-of-a-kind textiles that echoed the repeat patterns in a more tactile, experimental way.

Deliverables

  • A suite of digital floral patterns in coordinating colorways.

  • Fabric samples printed for apparel and interiors.

  • Peel-and-stick wallpaper featuring several designs, used for lining drawers.

  • Rubber stamp motifs for one-of-a-kind prints.

The Floral Meadow collection consists of delicate, muted florals in soft tones that feel both vintage and modern. The designs print beautifully across fabric and wallpaper, offering versatility for a wide range of uses. When applied to interiors, such as drawer lining, the patterns create a charming and homey effect; when used for garments, they echo the romance of cottagecore florals with a contemporary subtlety.

This project combined my love for handcraft and digital design. Moving from sketchbook to Procreate to Illustrator gave me a seamless workflow that preserved the organic feel of my drawings while allowing for precise, professional repeats. Creating rubber stamps of the motifs added another layer of tactile experimentation. The result is a versatile suite of designs that carry the feeling of nature indoors while remaining soft, modern, and enduring.
